Hair jelly, Snottie, Lions Mane

Size and appearance

Large flat bell 4-30 centimetres in diameter with a large 'mop' of fine hair-like tentacles 5-50 centimetres long. Bell top is usually white, but often with yellow, brown or reddish colouring under bell.

First Aid

Priorities for non-tropical jellyfish (marine stingers) common in Australian waters.

  1. Remove any adhering tentacles.
  2. Wash area with sea water (not freshwater).
  3. Apply cold packs for 10 minutes.
  4. Re-apply if skin pain persists.
  5. Send for medical aid if symptoms persist.
